Lydia and Resean’s Engagement Session at USC Columbia Horseshoe
Last weekend was a beautiful, early spring weekend, and it was perfect for Lydia and Resean’s USC engagement! We wanted to make sure and have their session in Columbia, and the Horseshoe at the University of South Carolina was the perfect way to mix in a woodsy, natural look with some unique architectural features as well. As always, I tried to plan the engagement session to take place during the last hours of daylight, known as “golden hour”, and I’m so glad that we were able to shoot during this time of day!
Though it was still bright outside, and a bit chilly, Lydia was a real trooper when I asked them to pose in this shady spot on the Horseshoe!
Speaking of architecture, I love using stairs to help pose couples. These two warmed up immediately and I love the contrast of their dark outfits with the light stone!
Lydia shares a love for Magnolia trees and blossoms, like most of us Southern girls do, so this Magnolia branch was the perfect spot for a ring shot!
The huge old oaks are one of my favorite features for a USC engagement session, as you can see from the collection of photos below. We were so lucky that some local students moved their makeshift hammocks so that we could use this perfect row of trees to frame Lydia and Resean.
It is so apparent in the way they look at each other that these two are madly in love.
Lydia and Resean were awesome, and totally worked with me when I prompted them to add some silliness to their session. When a couple can be silly for a second and loosen up, it leads to amazing photos during the remainder of the engagement portrait session.
Seriously, I can’t get enough of these oaks.
These close up images here are some of my favorites from the entire session.
How cute are they?! This pose speaks volumes. After all of the fun we had at their USC engagement session, I CANNOT WAIT for their Columbia, SC wedding in May!
Thanks again, Resean and Lydia, for being such a fun and gorgeous couple to work with! I look forward to seeing you both again in just 2 short months!
This is one of my favorite shoots that you’ve done! They really know how to pose and look good, and you framed them up so nicely underneath the trees! They make a beautiful couple!
Very sweet!: D
Wow! These are photos are gorgeous- love the soft rose and lichen tones of the lighting and background. Just beautiful!
Thank you so much!

Thanks, Marlowe! They took posing direction very well, and we had a good time, so I can only imagine how great the wedding will be!
