Falls Park and Downtown Engagement Session in Greenville

Kara and Jordan contacted me towards the end of last year about their Columbia, SC wedding and we quickly realized we were a great fit. In chatting with them about engagement portraits, they mentioned their love of Greenville — a love that I also share! We planned their session for late winter, right before spring arrived, when the evening light was still cool, and the days still short.

The shadows were perfect on the road between Falls Park and the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (my alma mater!), and I couldn’t wait to show them the beautiful “Medusa tree” on the edge of the park.

There are so many great features at Falls Park, and we loved chatting and laughing throughout Kara and Jordan’s session. The little waterfall near the edge of the park was bathed in gorgeous light, and as we shot there, Jordan and Kara told me that this is actually where he proposed! Perfect!

Of course, we had to spend some time in front of the large waterfall on the Reedy River which gives Falls Park its name!

I love when a cheesy joke or two can take a sweet moment to a moment of shared laughter.

Downtown Greenville engagement session with reflection in fountain
After a quick change into a Springtime-inspired wardrobe, we headed into the downtown area for more portraits. I couldn’t pass up this beautiful fountain and reflection in the sunset.

Engagement session at Larkin's By the River
I love the architecture in this venue by Larkin’s By the River. What a great way to frame a couple in love!

As you all know from my last post, I love when a tree curves perfectly to frame a couple.

Everything in this image makes me happy. The sunset hit downtown at the perfect angle to turn the Peace Center windows into mirrors for this reflection shot.

That’s not a flaw in the background of this image, it’s the beautiful water feature found behind Larkin’s By The River in Greenville!

There is always some silliness and laughter during sessions with Melissa Brewer Photography!

As we headed further into Downtown Greenville, there was no shortage of amazing locations for more portraits. I love the bokeh from the tree lights and water fountain in the background of this image.

I love the lights from passing cars and street lights in Downtown Greenville for these next few engagement photos!

As you can clearly see, Jordan and Kara had a great time during this engagement session! It was definitely worth the drive from Columbia, SC to spend the day in Greenville.

Thank you, Kara and Jordan, for suggesting Downtown Greenville for your engagement session! I will make that drive from Columbia anytime!

That feeling when you’re watching your mentees l That feeling when you’re watching your mentees level up and work with their new sparks of creativity! Photographers, if you haven’t found your professional coach/mentor yet, I cannot stress enough how important it is. Continued education - beyond just styled shoots - is crucial to your growth as an artist and business owner. I adore teaching and guiding with the skills I’ve learned over the past 12 years in business, and I still have just a couple of spots to take on mentees this year. Get in touch and level up now so you’re ready for the best fall season you’ve ever had!
And with that, spring wedding season is a wrap! Th And with that, spring wedding season is a wrap! The number of times I had to hold my face because my cheeks hurt from laughing is more than I can count; Haley & Logan are such a sweet couple, with a really amazing love story. Even greater than their story is the love of everyone around them! What a fantastic wedding with some amazing families and - of course - a great vendor team!
“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance. “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” - Coco Chanel

I would love to hear your own opinion on this quote. It perfectly captures the dilemma of wanting to express oneself through fashion, yet sometimes also feeling most comfortable in understated, classic styles. I personally have vascillated between wanting to be the most print-tastic, colorful woman in the world to feeling best in a wardrobe of blacks and neutrals, with understated jewelry. I believe that our sense of style can go through phases and evolve with time.

That's why, when you first inquire with me, I send you a short questionnaire to get a sense of your range of styles. This helps both of us to be on the same page for all of your sessions - whether it's engagements, bridals, or of course, the wedding day. I'm here to help you capture your unique essence and style in the most authentic and beautiful way possible.
