Best of 2015 Wedding Photography and Engagements

Well, here it is, the last day of 2015. This was a big year for me with Melissa Brewer Photography; I quit my part time job in May and began devoting all of my time to SC Wedding Photography.  It was a terrifying leap of faith, but God has blessed my business immensely, and 2016 is set to be the best year ever! I have been lucky enough to photograph weddings in Columbia, SC; Charleston, SC; Newberry, SC; and I am very excited for the coming year in Table Rock, SC; Asheville, NC; Greenville, SC; and more in Charleston and Columbia, of course.  I hope you all will indulge me a bit as I share just a few of my favorite photos from the past year!

ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

I was so blessed to meet many new couples, and photograph some amazingly sweet moments during their engagement sessions!

Every couple shares a laugh or smile in their own way, and I love being there to catch it!

We found lots of beautiful, golden sunlight, and never ran out of ways to show a couple together.

serious and intimate engagement portrait photos
While some moments were sillier, there were plenty of more stoic poses to enjoy as well. These tend to be some of my absolute favorites! I love when I can make a couple feel comfortable enough to relax, and not feel that they need to nervously smile in every image.

Of course, kisses and ring close-ups are always a favorite! I can’t wait for this couple’s wedding at Twigs in Greenville, SC next fall!

Engagement sessions are awesome, because this is when I really get to know a couple, and they get to know me. It makes for a perfect working relationship on the actual wedding day! After the time we have spent emailing, meeting in person, working together on engagement portraits and bridal portraits, by the wedding day, we feel like friends.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Speaking of wedding days, I have been lucky enough to not only shoot my own weddings, but also to be invited to shoot with other fabulous photographers at their weddings in 2015! In May, I was honored to work with Clay Austin at the Lace House for a wedding in Columbia, SC; and with Courtney Dox at Lowndes Grove Plantation for a wedding in Charleston, SC.

And with that, spring wedding season is a wrap! Th And with that, spring wedding season is a wrap! The number of times I had to hold my face because my cheeks hurt from laughing is more than I can count; Haley & Logan are such a sweet couple, with a really amazing love story. Even greater than their story is the love of everyone around them! What a fantastic wedding with some amazing families and - of course - a great vendor team!
“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance. “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” - Coco Chanel

I would love to hear your own opinion on this quote. It perfectly captures the dilemma of wanting to express oneself through fashion, yet sometimes also feeling most comfortable in understated, classic styles. I personally have vascillated between wanting to be the most print-tastic, colorful woman in the world to feeling best in a wardrobe of blacks and neutrals, with understated jewelry. I believe that our sense of style can go through phases and evolve with time.

That's why, when you first inquire with me, I send you a short questionnaire to get a sense of your range of styles. This helps both of us to be on the same page for all of your sessions - whether it's engagements, bridals, or of course, the wedding day. I'm here to help you capture your unique essence and style in the most authentic and beautiful way possible.
Magical wedding day portraits don’t just happen. Magical wedding day portraits don’t just happen. It’s my job to craft these magical moments — to give you a short, intentional pause that allows you to take a deep breath together, escaping the whirlwind of thoughts and external chaos. These are the moments where your love shines brightest, when we will work together to paint a picture of the most connected and blissful moments from your wedding day.

In the time leading up to your wedding, make sure you’re collaborating with your planner and me to build this time in seamlessly. We love to prioritize this time, because we all have the same goal: an amazing wedding day celebrating your love, with timeless photos that transport you back to those feelings a million times over.
Your wedding day details should represent your sto Your wedding day details should represent your story and your wedding day, but it’s not always easy to curate them as perfectly as Macy and @alexandramadisonweddings did here! Make sure to ask your photographer for input on which details should be photographed, even if you purchase a few items that exist only for these photos (wax seals and unique ring boxes, anyone). I can’t even put into words how much I love photographing these crucial storytelling items.
